Community-based mentoring matches caring adult mentors in individual relationships with children in need of adult friendships and guidance.  The adult mentor serves as a resource, support system, confidante, friend, and role model to their “little”, thereby decreasing the little’s likelihood to engage in high-risk behaviors.  In 2014, surveys indicated improvements in outcome areas of social acceptance, scholastic competence, educational expectations, academic performance, attitude towards risky behaviors, parental trust, truancy, and presence of a special adult in the child’s life other than a parent or guardian: 82% of the youth served reported improvement in at least two of the eight areas and 64% reported improvement in at least three of the eight areas.
