The United Way of Pickaway County has long been a supporter of the Pickaway Senior Center- specifically contributing funds to their Alzheimer's Respite and Home-Delivered meals programs. The Alzheimer's Respite iniative at the Pickaway Senior Center provides a safe and caring environment for loved ones with Alzheimer's or dementia. The program offers respite to caregivers. Those suffering the disease see an unavoidable decline in their health, yet their day-to-day ability to cope with the disease is improved with social activities – particularly focusing on cognitive skills – as well as interactions to promote optimal levels of performance. PSC espite also improves the health of caregivers through stress relief as well as assisting them in keeping their loved one at home.
In addition to respite care, the Pickaway Senior Center's Home-Delivered meals program delivers over 100,000 meals annually to seniors while promoting nutrition and overall health through this great initiative. The program also enables many seniors and families to remain at home and preserve independence.
